Former world heavyweight Boxing champion Anthony Joshua is reportedly considering retirement from boxing following a tragic car accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two of his close friends and team members.

According to reports Joshua’s uncle, Adedamola Joshua, revealed that the 36-year-old boxer privately communicated his decision to family members in the aftermath of the crash, stating, “The major thing there is that he has retired from boxing… each time he’s fighting in the ring, we are always carried away emotionally.”

The accident occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway near Sagamu, Ogun State. The Ogun State Police Command confirmed that Joshua, who was seated in the rear of a Lexus SUV, sustained minor injuries, while two other passengers, Sina Ghami and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele, died at the scene. Police said the circumstances surrounding the crash are under investigation. Joshua later attended an emotional funeral service for the two men at the London Central Mosque, where hundreds of mourners paid their respects.

Family sources say Joshua has committed to providing lifelong support to the families of the deceased.
