There are plenty of benefits to a cargo box over the bed of your truck, but also several hassles that come along with it. On the one hand, you can stack cargo higher and carry more delicate items since the bed is enclosed, but on the other, these canopies are heavy, difficult to remove (especially alone), and impossible to reconfigure. To get around these issues, General Motors has filed documents with the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA), describing a system for an inflatable tonneau cover that can be automatically assembled and disassembled from the cabin of a Silverado or other pickup.
