Amy Winehouse’s Former Husband Breaks Silence on Allegations Over Her Death

Former husband of Amy Winehouse, Blake Fielder-Civil, has come out to say that he is not responsible for the death of the British music icon after accusations that he played a part in her drug addiction, leading to her untimely death.

The former video production assistant made this known during an appearance on the ‘We Need to Talk’ podcast with Paul C. Brunson on Tuesday. Fielder-Civil said that he was not the one who introduced her to drugs.

“My stance now is that I know a lot of people, especially people reading media twenty years ago would have an idea that Amy’s passing is my responsibility,” he noted. “As I’ve always said – I never shirk from any responsibility. If I’ve done something, I’ll put my hand up to it, but I’m okay. I’m not okay but I’ve made my peace with… yeah, I had a part to play.”

He married Winehouse in 2007 after meeting her at a Camden pub. The pair’s divorce came two years before Winehouse was found unconscious at her home by a bodyguard.

Fielder-Civil said the ‘Rehab’ singer is partly responsible for what happened to her, noting, “Amy herself had agency, and that is in no way at all disrespecting her by saying that, but Amy did what she wanted to do and even knowing the drinking had started to hurt her, she carried on,” he said.

He has for a long time been blamed for her problems after agreeing that he introduced her to heroin in the mid-2000s. However, he insists Winehouse was already into drugs, particularly cocaine, before they met.

Winehouse’s father had fought to have his daughter stop taking drugs which were killing her, even when she had outstanding success with her music career.

The late Grammy award winner was globally recognised for her contribution to music through her unique contralto vocals, with hit songs like: ‘Rehab’, ‘Valerie’, ‘Our Day Will Come’, among others.
