Amy Schumer shows off dramatic weight loss in new photos following health journey

Amy Schumer has been on a remarkable health journey, and has shown off her body transformation in a new series of Instagram photos.

Taking to the social media website, Schumer, 45, shared a post to her 12.2 million followers of her on a boat in a sunny island setting, confidently sporting a bikini in three of the images.

The first picture of the carousel shows the comedian pulling on a wetsuit, with subsequent snaps of her under the sea's surface as she scuba-dived with her friends.

Schumer wrote in the caption: "I never knew there would be days like this. No filter as per ushe."

Amy Schumer's health journey and experience with weight loss drugs

Schumer has been on quite the health journey over the last 18 months, and has been open about her use of the popular, yet controversial, weight loss jabs.

The actor, who is a mum of one, first lost about 30 pounds using Ozempic - a Type-2 diabetes medication that isn't approved for weight loss - but was left 'bedridden' as she has a gene which makes her prone to nausea.

"I have this gene, GDF15, which makes you extremely prone to nausea, which is why I was so sick during my pregnancy," Schumer told The Howard Stern Show, before adding that 'other people take it and they're all good'.

She then switched to Mounjaro and 'loved' being on the drug, which helped increase her weight loss up to 50 pounds, as of December.

However, the aim of taking the drug wasn't just to lose weight, but to help with a hormonal condition she'd been diagnosed with in 2024 called Cushing Syndrome.

'I did it to survive'

Writing in an Instagram post last year, Schumer said: "I’m sure my weight will always fluctuate. I’m a perimenopausal woman on hrt meds."

The Trainwreck star said she had 'been working to be pain free and I finally am', adding: "My endometriosis is better. My back is healing. I no longer have Cushing's syndrome so my face went back to normal."

In another post, she further explained: "I don't get Botox or filer [sic]. I didn't lose 30lbs, I lost 50. Not to look hot which does feel fun and temporary.

"I did it to survive, I had a disease that makes your face extremely puffy that can kill you but the Internet caught it and that disease has cleared.

"Sorry for whatever feeling it's giving you that I lost that weight. I've had plastic surgery over the years and I use Mounjaro."

What is cushing's syndrome?

Cushing's syndrome can occur when the body produces too much of the hormone cortisol, typically affecting women aged 25–50.

It makes a person's face puff up and causes health issues like blood clots, heart attacks, infections and depression. It can even be fatal if not treated.

Schumer defended posting pictures of her body transformation on social media in February, writing: “Pics of yourself when you’re finally feeling strong and beautiful are not a cry for help.

“They are a celebration of life and health. Love to the single moms out there.”
