Ampem Darkoa Ladies beat Edo Queens to qualify for CAF Women’s Champions League

Ampem Darkoa Ladies have secured qualification for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League after defeating Nigeria’s Edo Queens 3-2 in the WAFU Zone B qualifying final in Cairo, Egypt.

The Ghanaian champions sealed the dramatic victory on Thursday, October 29, after the match resumed from the start of extra time with the score tied at 2-2.

Ampem Darkoa struck just two minutes into extra time from a corner kick to take a decisive 3-2 lead. The Techiman-based side then defended resolutely to protect their advantage and secure the regional qualification slot.

The victory brings an end to a prolonged dispute over the final, which was initially played in Burkina Faso on September 5. That encounter also ended 2-2 before Edo Queens won 4-1 on penalties.

Ampem Darkoa subsequently protested the decision to proceed directly to a penalty shootout, prompting the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to order the match to resume from extra time.

The triumph gives Ampem Darkoa another opportunity to showcase Ghanaian women’s football on the continental stage. The club previously represented Ghana at the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League, finishing fourth.

The 2026 tournament will take place in Egypt from November 1 to 15, with eight clubs competing for the continental title.
