Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has dismissed talk of a personal reunion with Viktor Gyokeres as his side prepares to face Arsenal in Sunday’s Premier League opener at Old Trafford.

Gyokeres, who joined Arsenal this summer in a £63.5 million deal after a prolific season under Amorim at Sporting CP, is set to make his competitive debut for the Gunners.

The Swedish striker scored 39 league goals and 54 in all competitions last term, firing Sporting to back-to-back league titles under Amorim’s guidance.

Despite their history, Amorim insisted his focus is on United’s overall game plan rather than an individual opponent.

“We just need to understand what kind of player he is in that position because it can be different movements, and we need to explain that to the team,” he told Sky Sports.

“He’s a very good player, a very good kid. But he’s one more player, and on Sunday, he’s going to be on the other side. I don’t care about Viktor.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal see Gyokeres as a key figure in their title push, while United have bolstered their attack with the signings of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
