Amamgbo Decries Schoolchildren Abductions, Demands Swift National Response

A prominent Nigerian public figure, Barr. Donald Amamgbo has expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the recent coordinated attacks on schools in Oyo and Borno States which led to the abduction of over 80 schoolchildren and several teachers between May 13 and May 15, 2026.

Describing the incidents as “a tragic reflection of the worsening insecurity ravaging the nation,” Amamgbo said it is heartbreaking that innocent children who should be protected and nurtured in safe learning environments are now becoming targets of terrorists and criminal gangs.

He particularly condemned the brutal killing of school headmaster Michael Oyedokun during the attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, noting that such barbaric acts have no place in any civilized society.

According to him, the abduction of young children, including toddlers between the ages of two and five in Borno State, exposes the dangerous depth of insecurity confronting Nigeria and the urgent need for decisive national action.

Barr. Amamgbo commended the efforts of security agencies, local vigilantes, and community members currently working to rescue the victims, while urging the Federal Government and affected state governments not to relent until every abducted child and teacher is safely reunited with their families.

He further called for comprehensive remedial measures to prevent future occurrences, including:

Immediate deployment of advanced security architecture around schools, especially in vulnerable rural communities.

Increased intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration to track terrorist networks and criminal hideouts.

Recruitment and proper training of local community security volunteers who understand the terrain and can work closely with conventional security agencies.

Amamgbo stressed that the repeated attacks on schools threaten not only the education sector but also the collective future of Nigeria, warning that a nation that cannot protect its children risks undermining its own stability and development.

He therefore urged Nigerians to remain united, vigilant, and supportive of efforts aimed at restoring peace and safeguarding every Nigerian child irrespective of region, religion, or background.
