Akwatia: NPP 3rd Vice Chairman reportedly slapped in scuffle with NDC’s Azorka

The third Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Osman Masawudu, has allegedly been slapped by the escorts of the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka, in a head-on scuffle.

According to Alhaji Masawudu, the altercation ensued while he was speaking to the media near the Akwatia Zongo area, where he had been deployed to monitor the polls in the ongoing election.

“I have been assigned to supervise and monitor the election at Akwatia Zongo. In fact, I was granting an interview when a national vice chairman of the NDC, Azorka, because of ignorance, came straight to where I was granting an interview to attack me,” Masawudu narrated.

Alhaji Masawudu further alleged that the scuffle happened in the presence of the security personnel deployed to maintain peace and order in Akwatia’s by-election.

“This incident happened in the presence of the police. He said it clearly that today he will make sure that I will be caned here, myself and Afenyo-Markin,” he noted.

In an interview monitored by The Ghana Report on Channel One TV, eyewitnesses confirmed that the fight quickly escalated with a member of Azorka’s escort slapping Masawudu before police intervened to restore order.

The police are yet to update the public on this incident, as no arrest has been made so far.

This comes after the police arrested one person who was allegedly seen removing a candidate’s posters at a polling station in Akwatia during the ongoing by-election.

After his arrest, the police stationed at the polling station ensured the process continued swiftly without any interference from third parties.

This by-election has become necessary following the passing of the incumbent MP, Ernest Kumi, some months ago.

Over 50,000 registered voters are expected to cast their vote today to elect a new Member of Parliament.

The contest is between Bernard Bediako Baidoo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Solomon Kwame Asumadu from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
