Super Eagles forward Akor Adams has revealed that his goal against Mozambique at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations was dedicated to his ailing mother.

The strike, which came with 15 minutes left on the clock, was Akor’s first goal for Nigeria at the tournament and sealed a dominant 4-0 victory over the Mambas in the Round of 16.

The Sevilla striker disclosed after the game that his mother was unable to watch the match live at the stadium due to illness.

“The goal is dedicated to my mum, she’s supposed to be here but she’s at the hospital right now,” Akor said.

Nigeria will now face either Democratic Republic of Congo or Algeria in the quarter-finals, and Akor insists the Super Eagles are ready for whoever comes next.

“Every game is different. We played Mozambique, I don’t know who we play in the next game, but whoever it is, we’ll try to work on the details,” he added. “There’s no time to make big adjustments, we have to brush it off, go game by game, and we hope we come out good.”

Akor also highlighted the unity within the squad and the team-first philosophy under head coach Éric Chelle.

“The philosophy of the coach is first about the team. We’re brothers and we have to look out for each other. If this is the capacity I get to play in the team, I’m privileged. It’s all about representing Nigeria and that’s what matters.”
