DUBAI: AI adoption in construction is gaining momentum as professionals increasingly turn to digital tools to manage growing workload pressures, according to a new global industry report. The findings reveal that artificial intelligence is now widely viewed as a practical support system rather than a threat to jobs.

The study, based on responses from 1,728 construction professionals across global markets including the UAE and Saudi Arabia, shows that 58 percent believe AI can help reduce their daily workload. Many respondents highlighted that administrative tasks consume a significant portion of their time, with nearly half spending more than 11 hours per week on such activities.

Despite this growing acceptance, AI adoption in construction still faces key challenges. In the UAE, 59 percent of respondents cited concerns around accuracy and trust in AI recommendations, while 29 percent pointed to the complexity of implementation. Data privacy and system integration were also identified as barriers, though to a lesser extent.

The report also indicates a gap between awareness and investment. While more than half of professionals said increased investment in AI tools would improve job satisfaction and retention, many organisations have yet to prioritise such upgrades. This suggests that businesses risk falling behind as workforce expectations shift towards digital efficiency.

Importantly, fears of job displacement ranked among the lowest concerns globally. Instead, professionals see AI as a way to streamline operations, improve coordination and reduce delays. Among users of AI-powered tools, many reported saving at least two hours per week per project, highlighting tangible productivity gains.

As infrastructure projects grow in scale and complexity across the region, experts say AI adoption in construction will play a critical role in enhancing efficiency, improving project outcomes and supporting long-term industry sustainability.
