Afrobeats inspires me, says DJ Khaled

Popular Disc Jockey and music producer, DJ Khaled says he has been feeling inspired lately by the Nigerian genre, Afrobeats.

The ‘We The Best’ founder said he is finding a similar “spiritual connection” to the one he feels with dancehall.

DJ Khaled stated this in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, where he also revealed that music star, Burna Boy would be on his upcoming 14th studio album, ‘Til Next Time,’ which is will be released in 2024.

He also said he would like to collaborate with budding Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems.

Speaking on his family, the American DJ said his parents sometimes joke with him about running for president, but he’s never been interested in that sort of thing.

“As far as politics, I never got into it. It’s a never-ending conversation of back and forth. There’s never an answer. I’d rather be the person that focuses on the solution of being good at all times, working hard, and spreading that love because you can do that,” Khaled said.

Nigerian music group, Ajebo Hustlers have argued in defence of Grammy-winning singer, Burna Boy’s controversial statement that Afrobeats lacks lyrical “substance.”

The Afrobeats and Highlife duo stated via their Twitter account that Burna is right because most of the big Nigerian artistes make music without substance.

CorrectNG reported earlier that Burna Boy riled up social media after he said in an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, that 90 percent of Afrobeat songs which is mostly domiciled in Nigeria “lack substance and real-life experience”.

Reacting via Twitter, Ajebo Hustlers said the ‘Last Last’ crooner was saying the bitter truth which would not change no matter how offended people are

Ajebo Hustlers tweeted: “Be mad at Burna all you want!! Still don’t change the fact that half y’all favs make music with no substance. Tbh [to be honest] that’s absolutely fair cause this is entertainment at the end of the day. But he’s saying the bitter truth.”
