Nigerian afro-house singer Niniola Apata has announced the death of her husband, Michael Ndika, the Chief Executive Officer of NaijaReview, a multimedia platform focused on afro-house and contemporary African music.

The 39-year-old Grammy-nominated artiste disclosed the loss in a series of emotional posts shared on her Instagram story in the early hours of Wednesday.

“God took him,” she wrote in the first post.

In another post, the singer added: “My husband died.”

She followed it with a third emotional message that read: “God took him. 13 years. 13 f***ing years.”

The circumstances surrounding Ndika’s death were not immediately disclosed. The couple had largely kept their relationship away from public attention and social media throughout their years together.

Ndika was known within the music industry as the head of NaijaReview, a platform dedicated to promoting afro-house music and contemporary African sounds.

Niniola Apata rose to fame after emerging as one of the top contestants on Project Fame West Africa in 2013. She later became one of Nigeria’s most recognised music exports, gaining international acclaim with her 2017 hit single Maradona.

The song earned her global recognition and attracted attention from international stars including DJ Snake, Drake, Timbaland and Beyoncé.
