AFCON 2025: South Africa Unlucky in Loss to Cameroon – Broos

South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has spoken out following his side’s exit from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Bafana Bafana were knocked out after a 2–1 defeat to Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions in their Round of 16 clash in Rabat on Sunday night. South Africa made a strong start and controlled much of the opening 30 minutes, but a lack of clinical finishing proved costly.

Cameroon broke the deadlock in the 34th minute through Junior Tchamadeu, before Christian Kofane extended their lead just two minutes into the second half. Substitute Evidence Makgopa pulled one back for Bafana Bafana three minutes from time, but it was not enough to force a comeback.

Despite the result, Broos insisted his team deserved a better outcome from the match.

“That’s the way life is. Our team did not deserve to lose tonight; this is not the result we came for, but we have to acknowledge that it is what it is,” Broos was quoted by CAFonline.

” We will now focus on preparing for our future objectives, with the World Cup in our sights.”
