AFCON 2025: Davido to headline kick-off concert in Rabat

Afrobeats sensation Davido has been confirmed as one of the headline performers for the official opening concert of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), joining an international lineup that includes French Montana, Douaa Lahyaoui, Says’z, and Lartiste.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the concert on Thursday as part of the pre-tournament festivities. Scheduled for Saturday at the Olm Souissi Fan Zone in Rabat, the event will run from 18:00 to midnight local time, with free entry for fans holding Fan IDs or match tickets.

Davido’s performance adds to his growing portfolio of high-profile sporting appearances. The Grammy-nominated artist has previously performed at the 2022 FIFA World Cup final in Qatar, Nigeria’s National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, the 2017 AFCON opening ceremony, the 2022 FIFA World Cup draw in Doha, and the 2023 Professional Footballers’ Association awards.

On the football front, AFCON 2025 officially begins on Sunday with hosts Morocco taking on Comoros at Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah in Rabat. Monday will see group-stage matches featuring Mali, South Africa, and Egypt against Zambia, Angola, and Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Super Eagles have arrived in Fes, where they will play all their group matches against Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda. The team completed a four-day training camp in Cairo, including a 2–1 friendly defeat to Egypt, as part of their final preparations ahead of the tournament. The squad aims to refine their tactics in Fes and kick off their AFCON campaign with a strong performance.
