Global sportswear giants Adidas and Puma have reportedly stepped up interest in securing a kit sponsorship deal with the Nigeria Football Federation as the current agreement with Nike approaches its final phase.

Sources revealed that both European brands have been closely monitoring the Super Eagles’ impressive performances at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, which has strengthened their desire to partner with Nigeria’s national teams.

Nike’s existing kit sponsorship deal with the NFF, first signed in 2015, is due to run out in December 2026. Talks between the Federation and the American manufacturer over an improved contract are expected to begin after the conclusion of AFCON 2025.

Nike initially entered into a renewable three-to-five-year agreement in 2015 to supply kits for Nigeria’s national teams. The partnership was renewed in 2018, bringing improvements in logistics, kit supply and financial terms.

Under the current arrangement, Nike provides jerseys and official apparel for all NFF teams across the men’s, women’s and youth categories, while also handling direct delivery to the Federation, removing the burden of importation and customs clearance. The deal also guarantees new kit designs for major competitions such as the AFCON and the Olympic Games.

Following the 2018 renewal, the NFF began receiving a fixed annual payment from Nike, a benefit that was not included in the original agreement. Before this upgrade, the Federation occasionally had to purchase kits for its teams due to the absence of guaranteed income.

Despite these improvements, the financial value of the initial deal — reportedly starting at $750,000 and later rising to $1 million — was widely viewed as below market value when compared to similar sponsorships held by other football federations worldwide.

Insiders now indicate that Adidas and Puma are ready to table offers significantly higher than Nike’s current package in a bid to take over the Super Eagles’ kit sponsorship. However, Nike is understood to be keen on retaining the partnership and is prepared to meet the NFF’s financial expectations.

Confirming the development, NFF General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi said formal discussions with Nike will begin after AFCON 2025.
