AEW reveals some of its big plans for Kevin Knight

Before Dynamite tonight (July 15), Wrestling Observer’s Bryan Alvarez followed-up on the Fightful report Geno shared in last night’s Rumor Roundup about AEW’s plans for TNT champion Kevin Knight. Alvarez posted that “as of a few days ago, Kenny Omega vs. Kevin Knight was the Redemption title match”.

Sure enough, by the time AEW’s live show from Boston was done, Knight was booked to challenge Omega for his freshly won AEW World title at next Sunday’s PPV in Montreal. He and the new champ agreed to it during Kenny’s celebration on Dynamite Wednesday night. That also featured Owen Cup winner Will Ospreay, who will challenge whoever hold AEW’s top prize come Aug. 30 when All In returns to Wembley Stadium.

Ospreay was respectful of his old rival and hero before Knight arrived, despite the coaching of his new Death Riders mentor Jon Moxley. The Jet was less so, demanding the shot he’s “owed” because MJF promised it to him before Omega’s Ospreay-ensured win last week. Despite this, the champ still believes in Knight.

That belief is a story-point for both Knight and Omega now. Kenny has Darby Allin, who was taken out by Knight after he dropped the World title to MJF and has been looking for revenge since, calling him an idiot for thinking babyface Jet is still in the recent addition to The Don Callis Family. Allin will also have another opportunity for revenge when he challenges Knight for the TNT strap next Wednesday on Dynamite before The Jet heads to Canada for his now-official shot at the Best Bout Machine’s belt.

Omega also has Mox playing mind games, showing up to say some cryptic-sounding things that could mean he doesn’t believe Kenny’s not the dick he was during his first AEW World title run, or could mean he’s not quite the benevolent sensei his dealings with Ospreay have made him out to be.

Meanwhile, Speedball Mike Bailey crashed Knight’s interview backstage to let his old JetSpeed tag partner know he still loves him.

At the end of the night, we also had a trios match that pitting the three men in All In’s World title story against Knight’s stable on the July 22 Dynamite:

• Kenny Omega, Will Ospreay, and Jon Moxley vs. The Don Callis Family (Brian Cage, Hechicero, and Jake Doyle)
• TNT Championship: Kevin Knight (c) vs. Darby Allin

We also had several matches for PPV four days later:

• AEW World championship: Kenny Omega (c) vs. Kevin Knight
• AEW Women’s World championship: Thekla (c) vs. Willow Nightingale
• AEW National championship: Mark Davis (c) vs. Andrade El Idolo
• AEW International championship: Kyle Fletcher (c) vs. Bandido
• The Painmaker Chris Jericho vs. Tommaso Ciampa
