AEW Dynamite recap & reactions (Aug. 27, 2025): Darby Allin is insane

Darby Allin is insane. That’s nothing new, but his craziness was showcased as the feature attraction of AEW Dynamite (Aug. 27, 2025) from 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA. The broadcast also explored challengers for Hangman Page’s world title, C&C brawling with FTR, MVP serving just desserts to Ricochet in a trios title bout, and more on the fallout from Forbidden Door.

Blood feud

Darby Allin is in a blood feud with Jon Moxley. I don’t think it could be any more clear than Allin painting with his own blood to challenge Mox for a match at All Out.

Moxley’s answer came courtesy of lackey Wheeler Yuta. No!

Claudio Castagnoli was game for a fight, so he battled Allin in Falls Count Anywhere for the main event. Allin had the element of surprise to start the bout. Flying squirrel attack!

Allin had another wild dive with a Coffin Drop from high above.

Claudio dished out his fair share of punishment. He launched Allin out of the ring crashing onto the commentary table. If you only watch one highlight, this is the one.

Claudio also executed an avalanche gutwrench suplex onto a pile of chairs.

The story was Allin being insane to take that much pain and still have fighting spirit to kick out. He persevered in the end for a Code Red and a pair of Coffin Drops to win. Gabe Kidd ran in afterward to maul Allin, but he was able to escape the clutches of Moxley. The show closed with Kidd in pursuit and Allin vanishing into the night.

Allin delivers entertainment, even at the expense of his own body. That main event was an awesome spectacle. Claudio was a beast on offense. They have great chemistry together. The story moves forward with Allin taking down the Death Riders’ enforcer. The question remains how he’ll get Moxley to agree to the PPV bout. Simple storytelling for the fallout show leaving room for the build.

Who is next for the world champ?

Hangman Page beat MJF at his own game to retain the AEW World Championship at Forbidden Door. So, that leads to the question of who will face the cowboy at All Out. We don’t have a clear answer yet, however, one possibility is extremely interesting.

It doesn’t look like MJF will be the challenger in back-to-back PPVs. Maxwell cut a heated promo calling out the fans as hypocrites. Tony Khan changed the rules of the casino contract, so that MJF has to give at least one week notice in advance. MJF blames Mark Briscoe for cheating him out of the title win, so he plans to finish that business before coming again for Hangman.

Briscoe had news of his own. A new baby has arrived to the family. Dat Boy is keen on settling the beef with MJF, and he also challenged Kyle Fletcher to a TNT title bout in Philly.

MJF versus Briscoe is PPV worthy, so it makes sense to save it for All Out rather than on television. In that case, two potential challengers would be busy.

Hangman addressed the crowd with thanks for Will Ospreay helping him along the way to reach this goal. The cowboy hopes a healthy recovery for Ospreay and will give him a world title shot when he returns from neck surgery. Don Callis butt in to proclaim the Callis Family calls next. Josh Alexander, Lance Archer, Hechicero, and Rocky Romero surrounded the ring to attack. JetSpeed tried to help Hangman, but the numbers will still too much. Enter Kenny Omega to help the heroes stand tall on a Buckshot Lariat and V-Trigger combo.

Hangman and Omega shared a hug.

It would seem the options to challenge Hangman would be from the Callis Family, but I’m hoping Omega gets the nod. Hangman has shown that he has no problem wrestling friends for the world title. He wanted Briscoe to earn a shot, and he also offered Ospreay a chance. Hangman versus Omega would tear the house down.

Looking at the alternatives, I believe that Hangman is clearly going to win at All Out no matter who he wrestles. Hechicero, Archer, and Romero aren’t realistic contenders. Wardlow didn’t engage in that skirmish. Alexander is from Toronto, so he makes sense. And that would be a great match. However, AEW hasn’t built Alexander up us a real threat to be world champ yet. Okada and Takeshita appear to have their own collision brewing, and I don’t think either of them are in a position to lose right now. Okada has lost before (to Bryan Danielson) while champion, but another loss would dampen his showdown with Takeshita. The Alpha is fresh off winning the G1 Climax in NJPW, so he shouldn’t lose before he gets the IWGP title shot.

That leads me back to Omega as the most exciting option for a babyface versus babyface affair. The match is guaranteed to be a banger with a big-fight appeal.

What’s your take on who should challenge Hangman at All Out?

Let’s jam through the rest of Dynamite. Catch up on all the details with excellent play-by-play from Claire Elizabeth.

C&C fight FTR. Dax Harwood, Cash Wheeler, and Stokely Hathaway opened the show to argue that they were screwed in losing the tag title match at Forbidden Door. Harwood claimed that he was pinned by the illegal man. Big Stoke bullied referee Paul Turner. When Turner put up the dukes, FTR protected their little man. Adam Copeland arrived on the scene with Christian Cage entering from the back side for a Kill Switch on Stokely. Glorious pandemonium ensued to set up the tag match at All Out.

That was a hot way to kick off the show coming out of the Forbidden Door PPV. AEW isn’t wasting any time and giving the people what they want with this matchmaking. Copeland and Christian were playing off each other well, like when Cope listened to the crowd to allow Christian to continue his line of questioning about FTR’s fathers.

FTR were classic scoundrels. I actually don’t know if Harwood has a real case to complain about, but his method of delivery made it worthy of jeers in either case. Big Stoke getting destroyed was a fun way to kick-start the fisticuffs.

Jon Moxley defeated Daniel Garcia. Hard-fought match. Moxley scored a roll-up for the win as Garcia went for the sharpshooter. After the result, it looked like Mox tried to recruit Garcia, but he was having none of it.
