Aevin Dugas Reclaims Guinness World Record for World Largest Afro from Simone Williams

A woman from the USA, Aevin Dugas, has once again made history after being recognized by the Guinness World Records (GWR) for having the world’s largest afro.

Aevin first claimed the record back on October 10, 2010, when her stunning natural hair measured:

18.5 cm (7.3 in) high

19.6 cm (7.7 in) wide

132.1 cm (4 ft 4 in) in circumference

It was made official — Aevin Dugas had the world’s largest afro!

Record Holder for Over a Decade

Since then, she has continued to hold on to the title, with her incredible afro also being featured in the latest Guinness World Records Book, launched last month.

Aevin’s Hair Journey

Speaking about her hair care, Aevin revealed that she avoids using heat to maintain the health and volume of her afro, even though in her younger years she experimented with permanent heat-stretching methods.

She explained that everything changed for her in her mid-20s

She said:“I woke up one morning questioning why I had to straighten my hair permanently. Why the chemicals, why is this necessary? Why does my texture have to be hidden?”

“I didn’t decide to grow an afro as much as I decided to go natural.

“I never thought I’d last this long so to still even be able to grow it out more was an absolute gift.

“I felt bad when I took the title back from Simone, but for personal reasons, I knew I still had work to do.”
