ADSIEC Meets Security Agencies Ahead of Adamawa LG Polls

By Emmanuel Kwada

The Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) has intensified preparations for the forthcoming local government elections scheduled for June 13, 2026, holding a strategic meeting with security agencies to ensure a peaceful, credible and hitch-free electoral process across the state.

The meeting, which took place on Monday at the commission’s headquarters in Yola, brought together key security stakeholders as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration and maintain law and order before, during and after the elections.

Speaking during the meeting, ADSIEC Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Umar, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to conducting a free, fair and transparent election across Adamawa State. He said the commission had made adequate arrangements for the polls and remained focused on delivering a credible electoral exercise.

According to him, ADSIEC had undertaken a series of preparatory activities, including the screening of candidates in January, consultations with political parties, procurement of election materials and the production of ballot papers, ballot boxes, result sheets and other essential electoral materials.

Alhaji Umar disclosed that all sensitive and non-sensitive election materials had already been received and secured by the commission. He added that distribution of the materials to the 21 local government areas would commence on Thursday to ensure timely deployment ahead of the Saturday election.

The ADSIEC chairman further revealed that 11 political parties would participate in the polls. The parties are the All Progressives Congress (APC), Action People’s Party (APP), Allied People’s Movement (APM), Social Democratic Party (SDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Young Progressives Party (YPP), BOOT Party, Accord Party, New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and Action Alliance (AP).

He explained that while all 11 political parties have fielded candidates for councillorship positions, only four parties have presented candidates for both chairmanship and councillorship seats across the state’s 21 local government councils.

Emphasising the importance of security in the electoral process, Alhaji Umar said effective collaboration between ADSIEC and security agencies was crucial to ensuring a peaceful atmosphere and safeguarding the integrity of the election.

He expressed confidence that with the support of security agencies and other stakeholders, the June 13 local government election would be conducted peacefully and produce results acceptable to the electorate and participating political parties.

The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts by the commission to strengthen electoral preparedness and build public confidence ahead of the local government polls.
