The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has alleged attempts by elements within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to interfere in its internal affairs, following recent political developments involving former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party claimed that there had been efforts to pressure the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) into taking actions that could undermine the ADC’s leadership structure.

According to the party, the alleged move comes after what it described as a “milestone political shift” involving Kwankwaso.

The ADC further alleged that, after failing to secure cooperation from INEC, those behind the move had resorted to alternative tactics, including plans for a public protest in Abuja.

The party claimed that the protest, reportedly scheduled for Thursday, would involve individuals posing as aggrieved members calling for the removal of the party’s leadership, including former Senate President, David Mark.

It argued that such actions were aimed at creating public pressure to influence regulatory decisions, particularly regarding the recognition of party leadership.

The ADC also alleged that the ultimate goal was to destabilise what it described as a growing opposition platform.

While expressing concern over the development, the party reiterated its commitment to lawful conduct and democratic principles.

“We remain focused on our responsibility to Nigerians and will continue to act within the law, while resisting any attempts to undermine the party,” the statement said.

Efforts to get a response from the APC and relevant government officials were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
