The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa State Council, has unveiled a vibrant two-day programme to celebrate the 2026 Correspondents’ Day, highlighting one year of purposeful leadership under Comrade Ibrahim Muhammad Kado.

This was disclosed on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, during a press conference addressed by Comrade Umar Dankano, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), at the NUJ Secretariat in Yola.

In his address, Comrade Dankano warmly welcomed members of the press and described the event, scheduled for April 15–16, 2026, as a moment to reflect on the chapel’s modest but impactful achievements under the current leadership.

“Correspondents’ Day provides a unique opportunity for us, as media professionals, to pause and weigh our collective contributions toward shaping society,” he said.

“It is a moment of reflection on how we have advanced public discourse, promoted accountability, and contributed to the social and mental well-being of the communities we serve.”

He emphasised that journalists continually commit their physical and psychological energy to the noble task of informing, educating, and enlightening the public for societal development.

The Correspondents’ Chapel, often regarded as a microcosm of Nigeria, plays a critical role in agenda-setting for both those in authority and the general public; a responsibility reinforced by Section 22 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution, which mandates the media to uphold accountability and good governance.

To mark the occasion and appreciate members’ dedication and professionalism, the LOC has lined up a rich programme of activities: A capacity-building training workshop for 100 practicing journalists, with a special focus on reshaping the narrative of election reportage ahead of the 2027 general elections; A free medical outreach programme open to chapel members and the general public, offering health screenings for hypertension, Hepatitis, HIV, and other essential medical tests; A novelty football match between the executive and legislative arms of government, aimed at strengthening the cordial working relationship that has enhanced journalistic operations in the state; An award and recognition segment to honour outstanding colleagues for excellence in reportage, discipline, and professional conduct.

Comrade Dankano commended members of the chapel and other stakeholders for their understanding, support, and cooperation, noting that the committee worked tirelessly to ensure a successful celebration.

He called on all well-meaning individuals, organisations, and the general public to support the event and make it memorable.

“Together, let us continue to uphold the ideals of journalism and contribute meaningfully to the progress of our society,” he concluded.
