The Raw GM speaks out on imposter scams.

Pop quiz, wrestling fans. What should you do if Romaine Rains, The Tribal Chef, DMs you asking for money?

Simple.

Don't part with your lettuce.

This past Sunday (June 2), Raw General Manager Adam Pearce sympathized with those who fell for impostor scams, believing they were in contact with their favorite WWE superstars. On X, Pearce wrote:

If you have given money online to the likes of “Jay Usso”, “Seth Rollens”, etc., I feel for you.

Don’t give strangers money online.

This has been an AP PSA.

The reason for Pearce’s public service announcement is unclear, but his message suggests that some people may have reported being scammed to the Raw GM. As Pearce implies, those issues should be filed with the proper authorities.

Misspelled names, as Pearce pointed out, can signal deception. Unfortunately, with the assistance of AI, online fraud and impostor scams have led to billions of dollars in losses. According to the FTC, people lost $10 billion because of such cons in 2023, with impostor scams topping the fraud category, accounting for $2.7 billion in losses.

In 2022, Liv Morgan said she had received emails about fake accounts and emails pretending to be her, asking for large sums of money. She expressed sadness over these scams and urged people not to use her name to deceive others.

“A man sold his home and lost everything thinking he was helping ‘me,’ Morgan wrote on X (then Twitter). “This has me so sick. Please know I would never reach out to ask any of you for a single penny. I’m so sad. Please stop.”

To avoid scams, the FTC suggests being careful with personal and financial information, verifying emails or texts before clicking on links, and confiding in someone you trust if you suspect a scam.

Or, as Pearce said, simply don’t give money to strangers on the internet, especially if they claim to be a WWE superstar.
