Actor, Baba Ijesa Calls Out Colleague Mr Latin, Labels Him an Opportunist

Yoruba actor and comedian, Baba Ijesa, has opened up about his experience with fellow actor Mr Latin, accusing him of being an opportunist and expressing his disappointment over how the actor handled a recent crisis involving them.

Speaking during a programme, Baba Ijesa recounted how he tried several times to reach Mr Latin after returning from Jerusalem, but claimed his calls were repeatedly met with excuses.

According to him, he called his “elder brother” more than 25 times, only to keep hearing responses such as, “I’m in a meeting, I’m in a meeting.”

Baba Ijesa explained that he could have changed parts of the story to make Mr Latin look better, but deliberately chose to narrate the incident exactly as it happened.

He further revealed that when he eventually arrived in the area, he went to report at their house and was subsequently arrested.

The actor suggested that Mr Latin’s closeness to Sirikimi, coupled with his popularity and influence, may have played a role in how he handled the situation. He added that he understood why his colleague might have been reluctant to get involved in a matter that could cause trouble.

Baba Ijesa also disclosed that some of Mr Latin’s previous comments about the incident angered him because, in his view, Mr Latin already knew what had happened when he arrived.

Despite his grievances, however, Baba Ijesa appeared to caution against taking the disagreement too far. He noted that if he ever wanted to “fight” Mr Latin, he could even choose to do so through a movie.

“There is no theatre practitioner without wisdom; you cannot find a foolish comedian. We don’t call comedy foolishness, it is inspiration,” he said.

He ended his remarks by stressing the importance of wisdom, patience and maturity, while a song played in the background:

“Gently, gently is how an elder acts. If we live long in this world, we become elders.”
