The Abia State Judicial Panel of Inquiry tasked with recovering government property and funds recently retrieved a Toyota Hilux van from the former Accountant General of the State, Kelechi Imeoria. The vehicle is alleged to have been given to him by the former Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, through his Secretary to the State Government, Chris Ezem.

Chairman of the Panel, Justice Florence Duruoha-Igwe, ordered the vehicle to be held at the panel’s premises for further investigation. In response, Kelechi Imeoria asserted his innocence, stating that the Governor had granted him the vehicle as a terminal benefit for his service during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Additionally, the Panel recovered a Lexus Jeep, a Hyundai Coaster Bus, a 100 KVA Generator, and a GeePee water tank from a retired Permanent Secretary, Mr Alozie Odoemelam. Justice Duruoha-Igwe emphasized the lack of substantial evidence regarding the procurement of these items by the retired official.

Despite claims by Mr. Odoemelam that he purchased the items at auction prices, the Panel instructed that the seized items remain in their custody for further scrutiny. They also sealed off an oil processing mill owned by Mr. John Chigbu pending investigation.

Abia State Commissioner for Agriculture, Professor Monica Ironkwe, expressed concerns about missing documents related to farm plantations and agricultural sub-stations leased out by previous administrations. She sought the Panel’s assistance in recovering these properties allegedly held by private individuals and organizations.
