Supporters of the Labour Party in Abia State, Southeast Nigeria have celebrated the election of the party’s governorship candidate in the state, Alex Otti, with a display of casket in what they called burial of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its reign in the state

Mr Otti polled 175,467 votes to defeat his closest rival, Okey Ahiwe of the PDP who polled 88,529 votes.

Following the declaration of the results, Abia residents trooped to the streets to jubilate. They went wild with excitement as they danced and had a fun-filled procession. The joyful residents who were spotted celebrating the Labour Party candidate’s win with a coffin, were heard saying “PDP anwuola” which loosely translates to PDP is dead.

PDP has been in charge of the state since 1999.
