“A lot has gone on” – Ademola Lookman delighted with goal contributions in Atalanta’s 3-0 win over Frankfurt

Super Eagles and Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman was delighted to be amongst the goals in his side’s 3-0 win over Frankfurt in the UEFA Champions League last night, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 28-year-old has had a poor start to the season, largely due to the absence of pre-season preparations, which were disrupted by Inter Milan’s interest.

Before the game at the Commerzbank Arena, he’d only scored one goal across all competitions for club and country.

However, he turned up in style against the two-time UEFA Europa League winners. After hitting the crossbar twice, Lookman broke the deadlock on the hour mark before setting up the game’s second for Ederson two minutes later. Three minutes later, Gianluca Scammaca added Atalanta’s third.

Ademola Lookman delighted with Champions League goal

Lookman’s celebrations were muted when he scored against AC Milan, but his delight was evident when he scored against Zetterer last night.

“Very important win today, I think we demonstrated what we did in the second half in Naples, although the result wasn’t what we wanted, but tonight we showed the DNA,” the 2024 CAF Player of the Year said in his post-match presser.

“Yeah, in the first half, we created a few chances, and it was difficult to score, but the mister came in at half-time and urged us to stay patient, and the goals would come, and they did in the second half.

“We scored a very quick three, in seven minutes maybe. That’s a good sign and good momentum for everyone going forward.

“I think to get back into the goals obviously and into the mode of scoring goals is important, but for me, the most important is the team, and winning tonight is a boost, and we’ll look forward to the weekend and continue on this journey.

The Super Eagles forward is now looking forward to Sunday’s clash against Atalanta, but above all, he was pleased to be paired with the two other attackers who delivered the UEFA Europa League title for La Dea last year.

“I think it’s important right now to get the victory, as 3-0 away from home is a really good result,” Lookman told Sky Sport Italia.

“Obviously, it’s very free and easy playing with Scamacca and De Ketelaere, because they are quality players. We just have to keep on working and improving as a team.

“We take this performance and hope to carry it on in the league.

“The Mister has a very clear idea of attacking and entertaining football, which you can see in the goals that we scored.

“Obviously, the DNA of pressing and hard work is in the team anyway, and we have to keep that going.

After a summer where he fought so hard to join Inter and failed to force through the transfer, the former Fulham man is focused on winning games for Atalanta now.

“You know, what’s happened has happened. A lot’s gone on. Some things people know, others they don’t.

“Right now is the time to work hard for the team, and we need to win games; that’s the most important thing, to get stronger every day.

“That is what I am concentrated on, and so is the team, working together every day to get results,” the one-time FIFA U-20 World Cup winner concluded.

Raffaele Palladino’s side have now secured 10 points from their opening five games, and need to pick up the pace soon if they’re to qualify directly to the knockout round.
