79-Year-Old Grandmother Graduates with a Bachelor’s Degree

Angerline Day, a 79-year-old from Montgomery, Alabama, recently celebrated a remarkable milestone by earning a bachelor’s degree, demonstrating that age is no barrier to achieving one’s dreams.

After retiring from her job at JCPenney, Day decided that retirement would not mark the end of her learning journey. She had always dreamed of studying psychology but was forced to abandon her studies at Alabama State University due to financial constraints.

Over four years ago, with the encouragement and support of her sons, Day enrolled at Troy University to complete her long-deferred dream. Her son proposed a unique gift: rather than traditional birthday or Christmas presents, he offered to finance her return to school.

Studying online from her bedroom, Day faced significant challenges, especially with technology. Despite moments of self-doubt and difficulties in adapting to digital learning, she remained determined. Her dedication paid off when she proudly received her diploma.

Day’s achievement has inspired many, including her family. Her son Thomas expressed pride in her transformation over the past few years, noting her sharpened focus and determination. Her journey exemplifies perseverance and the belief that it is never too late to pursue one’s dreams.

Day hopes her story will encourage others to pursue their aspirations, regardless of age. Her message is clear: never give up on your dreams, as the pursuit of knowledge can bring profound personal fulfillment and joy.

Angerline Day’s journey to earning her degree serves as a powerful reminder that lifelong learning is a valuable and rewarding pursuit, no matter when one starts.

In a remarkable achievement, Janiya Baker, a 15-year-old student from Homestead, Florida, is set to be recognized for her outstanding academic accomplishments at Homestead City Hall. Baker has become the first student in Miami-Dade County to skip from 9th grade to 12th grade in a single year, a feat that underscores her exceptional dedication and intelligence.

Baker’s academic journey is nothing short of extraordinary. Starting at Homestead High School, she rapidly progressed through her studies, demonstrating a level of proficiency that allowed her to leap from freshman to senior status within one year. “I was ready to finish school,” Baker told WSVN, reflecting on her accelerated path.

From an early age, Baker’s mother, Jasmine Gary, recognized her daughter’s potential. “I noticed she was very accelerated, and I’m like, ‘OK, she doesn’t make B’s,’ so then I’m like, let’s put her in higher classes, and she just kept going higher and never dropped the ball,” Gary said.

Baker’s impressive academic record is matched by her active participation in extracurricular activities. She is not only the highest GPA holder in her class but also an accomplished student-athlete, varsity cheerleader, and class president. Her ability to balance these commitments highlights her extraordinary work ethic and time management skills. Read more about Janiya here.
