5 Arrested Over Assault on Woman Who is Helping Police in Ongoing Investigation in Imo

The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of five individuals involved in the assault of Mrs. Ndidiamaka Agu, who was attacked for cooperating with law enforcement during an ongoing investigation in her community.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed in a statement that the arrests were made on the orders of the State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, who directed operatives to take immediate action after a video of the assault went viral.

According to Okoye, the disturbing footage showed Mrs. Agu being assaulted in Emekuku, Owerri North Local Government Area, by the suspects and one other individual who remains at large.

Following the commissioner’s directive, operatives of the X-Squad Unit launched a swift operation that led to the arrest of the suspects identified as Onyekachi Njoku, Chiazor Osuji, Chukwuma Iwuala, Eugene Njoku, and Emmanuel Njoku.

Okoye further revealed that all five suspects have confessed to participating in the assault.

He added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the sixth suspect, identified as Onyedikachi Njoku, who is currently on the run.

“The Commissioner of Police condemns the assault in its entirety and reaffirms that intimidation of citizens who lawfully cooperate with the police will not be tolerated. The arrested suspects will be arraigned in court soonest with the appropriate criminal charges,” Okoye stated.
