4 Reasons the HCBC Event Belongs on Your Calendar

Have you ever been bullied? Most of us know how bad this feels – whether virtually or physically. There should be more conversations about this, and it’s my duty to make sure I bring these to your screen every time I see one.

Since its premiere on July 20, 2025, the MTV Base Room of Safety TV series has been giving young people a voice to speak up and openly about what it’s really like growing up online, from cyberbullying to toxic comparison and everything in between. Now, for the very first time, those conversations are moving offline.

On Thursday, August 28, 2025, MTN Nigeria will be hosting the Help Children Be Children event at the MTN Rooftop Event Centre in Lagos. Here’s why this one is worth showing up for:

  1. Honest Conversations You Can Relate To: There will be a Youth Realities Panel where young Nigerians will share their experiences – unfiltered. You will get to hear personal stories about navigating peer pressure, harmful content, FOMO, and online image. This is about lived experiences, and you want to be a part of it.

  1. Insights That Hit Home: The power of digital literacy will be explored, and new Nigerian research will reveal just how deeply the internet is shaping the lives of children and young people today. Before you say, ‘boring’, this research shaped this TV series and explains why this is important right now.

  1. A Fresh, Youthful Vibe: With a rooftop venue, a cool dress code in MTN’s signature colours, and a culture-driven atmosphere, the event is designed to feel more like a gathering of peers. Safety meets style in a way that speaks the language of young people.

  1. A Chance to Be Part of the Movement: This is a call to action. From pledges to online safety challenges, this is your opportunity to add your voice to a growing community that’s working to make the internet safer for children and young people everywhere.

Bottom line: if you care about creating a safer digital future, the Help Children Be Children event is one event you don’t want to miss. Mark your calendar for August 28 because this is where fun and purpose meet.
