2027: PDP is ready – National Chairman

The National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed has reassured that his party is ready for the 2027 general election.

Hon. Mohammed gave the assurances on Monday at the party’s National Headquarters, Wadata House, Abuja when he received a delegation from the International Republican Institute (IRI), Pre-Election Assessment Mission (PEAM) For the 2027 general election.

Accompanied by members of his National Working Committee, Mohammed told his August visitors that the party is democratic in nature and the people are given prime consideration in all the undertakings of the party.

While appreciating the efforts of the team that was on hand to monitor the just concluded governship election in Osun state, Mohammed continued,

“We are Peoples Democratic Party, and we belong to the people of Nigeria, and our yearning and aspiration is to give responsibility to the electorate, and that is why, for 20-something years ago, the party remained democratic, and it’s all across the 36 states and FCT and 774 local government of Nigeria.

“So I want to thank you for coming. And as we discuss, we’ll tell you more about the party and our template for the 2027 upcoming general election. But I want to assure you that the PDP is fully ready for the election”.

Earlier in her opening remarks, the IRI African Regional Director, Jenai Cox said that the delegation visited the party to assess their level of preparedness ahead of the general election and also interface on some of the challenges that the party is facing.

“Our pre-election assessment mission delegation is here to learn more from a variety of stakeholders about the pre-election period and preparations ahead of the general election.

“So our team that is here is assessing that situation, assessing how preparations are going, what parties are up to as well, what we should be looking for as we get closer to January, and hearing from a variety of stakeholders’ viewpoints.

“The mission will have an opportunity to share recommendations towards the end of the week with stakeholders, where we will have a preliminary statement available.

“So thank you again so much for having us, and we look forward to hearing from you on your thoughts on the political environment ahead of the election, and how you are preparing for for running in the campaign that is ahead”.

Members of the delegation include: His Excellency Jendayi Frazier, former U.S Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, IRI President, Dr. Daniel Twining, IRI African Regional Director, Jenai Cox and IRI West African Regional Program Director, Sentell Barnes among others.
