2027: Opposition Not United Enough to Unseat Tinubu – Ndume

The Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has said key figures in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi, have yet to present a clear strategy capable of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

Ndume expressed confidence that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would retain power beyond 2027. He made the remarks during an appearance on Politics Today on Thursday.

“I am not worried because no one is bringing anything new,” Ndume said.

“Everyone keeps mentioning the same names — Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Atiku, Amaechi, or Peter Obi — but I have not seen any fresh ideas from them.”

He added that although President Tinubu remains firmly in control, opposition groups, particularly within the ADC, appear fragmented.

“The man in charge now is Tinubu, but those trying to take over, including members of the ADC, seem scattered and inconsistent,” he said.

“At one point, I had strong confidence in them, but when you see individuals more focused on personal ambition, it becomes less convincing.”

Ndume also noted that despite having prominent figures, the opposition has struggled with unity and coordination.

“So far, even with strong personalities, they have not been able to organise themselves effectively. You cannot underestimate any opponent, no matter how small they appear.

“Remember, that was how the PDP initially viewed the APC. Buhari contested several times before eventually winning. So, I am not writing off Obi or Amaechi,” he added.
