2027: Ibadan South-West PDP Screens Assembly Aspirants Ahead of April 8 Consensus Deadline

Ahead of April 8 deadline, stakeholders and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibadan South‑West local government area of Oyo state have concluded the screening exercise of aspirants vying for the Oyo state House of Assembly seats in constituency 1 and constituency 2, as the party moves closer to its consensus nomination deadline for the forthcoming general elections.

The exercise, put in place under the guidance of party leaders across the 12 wards of Ibadan South-west local government was held in accordance with directives from the state leadership of the PDP, headed by Governor Seyi Makinde, who had at a stakeholders meeting held recently, charged party stakeholders with ensuring a credible, transparent and consultative selection process.

Speaking earlier, PDP chairman in Ibadan South‑West local government, Hon. Kunle Folarin Baale, while addressing aspirants, party faithful and stakeholders, ahead of the commencement of the exercise, emphasized the importance of internal cohesion and compliance with party guidelines in line with the broader roadmap set by the party ahead of the 2027 general election cycle.

He said the outcome of the screening is expected to inform the next stage of the PDP’s internal consensus process, ahead of the April 8 deadline for the selection of candidates for all elective seats, which will be ratified by the 15th of April, 2026 as directed by the state governor.

While ten aspirants from both constituencies 1 & 2, are currently eyeing the two seats from the state constituency, only nine presented themselves before the screening panel.

They include,
Yusuf Oladehin – Ward 6
Abiodun Baruwa – Ward 3
Oyebamiji Olaide Rasaq – Ward 5
Habeeb Balogun – Ward 12
Olakunle Akinsete – Ward 11
Usman Sijuade Adedibu – Ward 9
Babatunde George Ige – Ward 8
Musa Abidemi Kamorudeen – Ward 11
Afolabi Olabisi Habibat – Ward 12, while Munirudeen Taiwo Apanpa from ward 2 did not attend.

During the screening exercise, aspirants took turns to present personal profiles, recount past achievements and articulate their vision for legislative representation should they secure the party’s ticket.

At the close of interviews and deliberations, stakeholders recommended two candidates from each constituency for further consideration ahead of consensus nomination, after a careful assessment of their experience and performance during screening and overall acceptability among party structures.

Among party leaders in attendance at the exercise include, former chairman of Ibadan South West local government, Hon. Tajudeen Alesinloye (Alesh), PDP south-west zonal woman leader, Alhaja Modinat Adedibu, former senator, Oyo south senatorial district, Senator Adedibu Kamorudeen, Political head, Ibadan West LCDA, Alhaji Tajudeen Adigun (Atu), Hon Taoheed Ayorinde, Hon. Oluwafemi Fowokanmi, state honourable, Ibadan South West constituency 2, Alhaji Bukola Tirimisiyu, Pa. Adebisi Adesina, Pastor Taiwo Tibonyin, Alhaji Tajudeen Adeladan, Hon Paul Sewo Oni, Alhaji Tesleem Olaide, Hon Moruf Balogun (Murphy) and the PDP Party Chairman in the local government, Hon. Kunle Folarin (Baale).

Other party leaders, including Kehinde Akande, Dr. Nureni Adeniran, Oloye Nureni Akanbi,(Baba Ile’ba), Iya Mukeso and Pastor Biodun Popoola were unavoidably absent from the screening due to other pressing state matters.
