They swept the Astros in the wild-card round, and then took Game 1 on the road in Cleveland, 3-0. Pitching carried the day for Chicago to open the series, as its staff allowed just three hits. Munetaka Murakami hit a 2-run homer in the top of the fourth inning, and Colson Montgomery hit an RBI double in the top of the seventh, and that was all the Sox needed. Game 2 is set for Monday. Game 2: The White Sox are white-hot. They sit at 4-0 in the playoffs and have taken a 2-0 lead over the Guardians in the ALDS. Cleveland led 2-1 through five innings, but a 3-run top of the sixth gave Chicago the lead and it never relinquished it. Braden Montgomery hit a 2-run double, followed by Chase Meidroth driving in Montgomery with an RBI single. Game 3: Chicago has finally suffered a loss this postseason. It was 4-0 entering Wednesday's Game 3 against Cleveland, but the Guardians saved their season with a win on the White Sox's home field. Both teams essentially had a bullpen game, with no pitcher from either team lasting more than three innings. Cleveland broke things up with four runs in the third inning and two apiece in the eighth and ninth. The Guardians live to see another day. Playoff History: With that series victory over the Astros, the White Sox got their first playoff win since 2005 — the same year they last won the World Series. As for the Guardians, they've made it to the postseason in three of the last four years. They lost in the wild card last year, the ALCS in 2024 and the ALDS in 2022. Their last World Series appearance came in 2016, a seven-game loss to the Cubs.
