2025 Saw About 92 Million New Vehicle Sales Worldwide

During the last year, 91,935,010 new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were sold worldwide, according to GlobalData. Analysts state that this figure exceeded the result of 2024 by 3.6 percent, when 88,637,460 new vehicles were sold. China remained the global leader in the sale of new cars: in 2025, 26,887,094 vehicles received their first owners in this country, which is a growth of 5.6 percent compared to the previous year.

The United States ranks second on the list, with 16,325,284 new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles sold, an increase of 2.5 percent. Western European markets followed, where 13,416,422 new cars and vans were sold, a modest increase of 0.3 percent compared to 2024. Dealers in Eastern European countries sold a total of 4,691,409 vehicles, an increase of 0.4 percent compared to the previous year.

A record 4,529,913 new passenger cars (+5.7 percent) were sold in India, but the exact number of light commercial vehicles delivered is not known. It is only known that more than a million commercial vehicles were sold in total, which means that we should count on several hundred thousand vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tons. The highest growth in sales (+8.8 percent) was recorded by the South American markets, which “swallowed” 3,124,215 new passenger and light commercial vehicles.

The list of the largest automotive markets in the world at the end of 2025 includes Japan, where 4,528,323 units were sold (+3.3%); Canada, with a result of 1,867,618 vehicles (+3.2%); and South Korea, with a result of 1,654,978 units (+3.5%).

According to still unofficial data, Toyota remains the best-selling car brand in the world, while the Toyota RAV4 is the best-selling model, ahead of the Toyota Corolla and Tesla’s Model Y.
