  • Cupra has teased the Terramar crossover, ahead of its debut on September 3.
  • The model will be offered with internal combustion engines as well as a plug-in hybrid powertrain that delivers around 62 miles of electric-only range.
  • It will lean heavily on the Volkswagen Tiguan, but feature unique styling inside and out.

Cupra announced plans for a Terramar crossover more than two years ago and now the company has revealed the production model will debut on September 3. It promises to blend emotion with performance and be a “hero of a new era.”

The crossover is named after the Terramar circuit and will compete in one of the fastest growing segments in Europe. Cupra isn’t saying much about the model at this point, but hinted at a “bold and confident look” as well as next generation eHybrid technology.

Essentially a sportier version of the Volkswagen Tiguan, the Terramar features an aggressive front fascia that incorporates a number of triangular elements. The most notable of which are distinctive daytime running lights.

Moving further back, there’s streamlined bodywork and an upward sweeping beltline. They’re joined by a sporty rear pillar, a slender light bar, and a bumper with an integrated diffuser.

When the Terramar was originally announced in 2022, Cupra said the model would be built in Hungary and be offered with internal combustion engines as well as a new generation of plug-in hybrid powertrains that deliver around 62 miles (100 km) of electric-only range.

We’ll learn full details in the coming weeks, but the Tiguan offers two different plug-in hybrid options that have a 1.5-liter TSI engine, an electric motor, and a 19.7 kWh battery pack. This gives them outputs of 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS). More importantly, their battery delivers a combined electric range of up to 80 miles (129 km).

Besides plug-in hybrid power, the Tiguan offers a 261 hp (195 kW / 265 PS) 2.0-liter TSI and 1.5-liter mild hybrids with outputs of 129 hp (96 kW / 131 PS) and 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS). The crossover can also be equipped with 2.0-liter TDI engines producing up to 190 hp (142 kW / 193 PS).
