15-Year-Old Boy set to be Jailed for 16 Years After Stabbing His Fellow Student, Harvey Willgoose, During Lunch Break

A 15-year-old boy, Mohammed Umar Khan, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for fatally stabbing his schoolmate, Harvey Willgoose, during lunch break at All Saints Catholic High School in Sheffield.

The tragic incident occurred on February 3, 2025, when Mohammed brought a knife to school and stabbed 15-year-old Harvey in the heart in front of horrified classmates.

During the trial, the court heard how students screamed and ran in panic, while others locked themselves in cupboards to hide as chaos unfolded.

At Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday, October 22, Mrs Justice Ellenbogen told the defendant:
“You were the aggressor and… you acted in hurt and anger at what you considered to be his betrayal of your friendship.”

Following multiple applications from media outlets, including the PA News Agency, the judge agreed to lift an order banning Khan’s identification, noting that the public interest outweighed concerns for his welfare as he approaches his 16th birthday.

The Judge added: “This was a serious crime carried out by one pupil on another on school property with a knife he brought into school.
“It was witnessed to varying degrees by other pupils and teachers.

“The public will wish to know the identity of those who commit such offences in seeking to understand how it is a child of that age can do so.”

Harvey’s parents, Mark and Caroline, sat in the back row of the public gallery, surrounded by other family members, including his sister, Sophie.

In a heartfelt statement to the court, Sophie said her family is still “struggling to comprehend the fact that Harvey was murdered in the most cruel and inhumane way.”

She added, “This was not just a crime against my brother — it was a crime against all of us who loved him.”

Prosecutor Ms. Willgoose continued, saying, “The pain will remain with us for the rest of our lives.”

“We want justice not only for Harvey, but for the family that will carry his loss forever.”
