What is the fastest car in the world? It seems like a simple enough question to ask, but answering it isn't so easy. Any automaker can claim their cars can do insane speeds or accelerate like bats out of hell, but proving it is another thing entirely. And then you have to consider whether a car is A) road legal, and B) truly a production car. Since the top speed records ramped up in the 1990s, it's been a crown every automaker dreamed of claiming, and they've gone to extreme lengths to do so.
