11 Counties Set to Have the Most Voters in 2027

The 2027 General Election is approaching thick and fast, and leaders and aspirants from across the political divide are urging supporters to make sure they are registered as voters.

One of the initiatives encouraging youth to make plans to get their voter cards is the ‘Niko Kadi’ campaign, which has gained traction on both social media and on the ground. This has also seen Kenya’s senior politicians, including President William Ruto and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, all join in.

With the increase in new voters ahead of the 2027 General Election, top political aspirants, including presidential candidates, will continue to rely on the traditional voting bases that have shaped outcomes over the past decades.

One of the regions that has been a battleground and a vote-rich area is Kenya’s capital city, Nairobi, which is a metropolitan area with people from all walks of life.

Other regions that have been producing a good number of voters include Kiambu County, Kakamega, Nakuru, Kisumu, and Murang’a, just to name a few.

Now, with the general election approaching, a list of counties likely to have a huge number of voters is out.

According to the report, Nairobi City is expected to have 3 million voters, followed by Kiambu County with 2 million. Other top counties include Nakuru, Kakamega, Meru, Machakos, Bungoma, Mombasa, Kisii, Murang’a, and Kisumu, all with a projected 1 million voters each.

In 2022, Nairobi had a total of 2,415,310 registered voters, Kiambu 1,275,008, Nakuru 1,054,856, Kakamega 844,551, and Meru 772,139, making them the counties with the highest numbers.

With the new drive to increase the number of voters, this figure is likely to rise from the total of 22,102,532 registered voters across the country in the previous General Election.

As the number of voters goes up, patterns in counties will also reflect how people will vote in the 2027 elections.
