The 2027 General Election is approaching, and the message from all the political outfits in the country is for their supporters to register as voters.

Each political camp, be it government or opposition, is targeting especially younger Kenyans and those who have never registered before to do so, hoping this will increase the number of voters in their favor come 2027.

As such, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has opened its doors for new voter registration, as well as transfers and change or update of particulars.

The process has been running since 30th March 2026, and by 16th April, the number of newly registered voters stood at 1,370,930.

Since the commission’s last update on 9th April, it has recorded an increase of 495,429 new voters, transfers: 92,602, and change/update of particulars: 1,969.

The surge in voter registration across the country has even seen elderly Kenyans over the age of 80 register, as well as youths, especially Gen Zs, many for the first time.

With such large numbers of newly registered voters, the IEBC also released a list showing how Kenyans registered in each county countrywide.

According to the report, Nairobi County has so far recorded the highest number of new voter registrations in the ongoing exercise, with a total of 150,166 out of the overall 1,370,930 countrywide.
