In a significant push to enhance law enforcement capabilities amid ongoing security challenges, the Zamfara State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure has launched a comprehensive rehabilitation program for vehicles belonging to various security agencies.

The initiative, announced by ministry spokesperson Jamilu Bello in a statement released on Saturday, aims to restore grounded and non-functional vehicles to full operational status.

This effort is part of Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration’s broader strategy to sustain and strengthen security operations across the state, where banditry and other threats have long plagued communities.

“Under the initiative, several grounded and non-functional vehicles have been repaired, serviced, and restored perfectly,” Bello stated. He emphasized that the project demonstrates the government’s dedication to effective asset management, technical efficiency, and institutional support for security forces.

Once the rehabilitation is complete, Governor Lawal is set to formally hand over the refurbished vehicles to beneficiary agencies, including the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

This handover is expected to underscore the administration’s commitment to equipping security personnel with essential logistics, thereby improving mobility, enabling timely responses, and boosting overall operational effectiveness in combating crime and insecurity.

The statement further highlighted that the program aligns with the state government’s ongoing pledge to assist security agencies in fulfilling their constitutional duties.

“This administration remains resolute in supporting security agencies through infrastructure development and equipment maintenance,” it added.

Security experts have welcomed the move, noting that reliable transportation is crucial for patrols in Zamfara’s vast rural areas, where poor vehicle conditions have often hampered rapid interventions.

While no specific timeline for the handover was provided, officials indicated that the initiative is progressing swiftly to address immediate needs.

This development comes as Zamfara continues to grapple with banditry, kidnappings, and communal clashes, making logistical support for security agencies a top priority for the Lawal administration.

Residents in Gusau and surrounding areas expressed optimism that the revamped vehicles will lead to more visible and effective policing in the region.
