Yvonne Ossei Wins the Prestigious British Council ‘Study U.K Alumni Award’ for Ghana






Ghanaian actress and producer Yvonne Ossei has won the the acclaimed British Council ‘Study U.K Alumni Award’ for Culture and Creativity 2025.  

The global award ceremonies take place in all the commonwealth countries, including Ghana, and this year Yvonne nabbed the Culture and Creativity award on behalf of the country. 

The Study U.K Alumni Awards ‘honours international leaders who have leveraged their U.K (higher) education to make significant contributions to their communities, industries and countries’ – (British Council). 

Yvonne’s work spans the theatre, TV and film industries in both the U.K and Ghana and she was thrilled to receive the award saying “I do not take the win for granted as there was a group of very worthy candidates that made it to the finalist stages.” 

Yvonne was the first African woman to win the British Urban Film Festival Award, a two-time winner of the Ghana Prominent Awards and now adds this new accolade to her list of accomplishments. 

Yvonne said that “it was a privilege to have represented my country Ghana and to have brought the award home on behalf of the university of which I graduated (my alma mater) Queen Mary University of London.” She was pleasantly surprised to receive a personal video message from officials at Queen Mary University U.K which was broadcasted during the award ceremony at the British Council auditorium, congratulating her on her win. 

Among other works, Yvonne created the fictional stage play on FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) titled ‘Face Up,’ which was performed live at Channel 4 Studious U.K, toured theatres including the Pleasance (U.K) and adapted for screen in Ghana, which aired on Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC/GTV). She is the creator of Celebrity TV Couch (Ghana) and worked as a senior manager in the U.K government for ten years before turning her focus to the arts. 

Yvonne continues to contribute to the global TV/ film industries and especially within Ghana. She extends her gratitude to the British Council, Queen Mary University of London and all those who have supported her creative work to date.
