YouTube Music Rolls Out Sound Search, Generative AI Radio

YouTube Music is  rolling out new features  to boost song discovery on the platform.

The latest on the Music streaming app is here as it expands its new features to more users.

Sound Search

Sound Search  enables YouTube Music users to now search the app’s catalog of songs by sound.

It is a Shazam-like tool. It  helps users discover the name of a song by singing it, humming it, or playing parts of it.

To access this feature, users may click on  the  “Search” magnifying glass icon. That would take them to the classic text field that now includes a ‘waveform’-like Icon.

The ‘waveform’-like icon represents the new feature.

Clicking  on this would take users to a new UI that will record whatever sound is playing, or that they hum or sing.

The app will then find the desired song based on the audio prompt.

This feature is now available to all users.

Generative AI Radio

On the other hand, the experimental feature known as ‘generative AI radio’ which was first introduced last May under testing now expands to more users in the US with active Premium subscriptions.

The generative AI radio is  an AI-generated conversational radio feature.

The  feature enables users to create a custom radio station on the app, by describing what they want to hear.

Users who have access to the new feature will start to see a new “Ask for music any way you like” card in the app’s home feed.

With a  click on the card, the app will open a conversational UI where users can enter a custom prompt or select a suggested one.

For instance, a user could ask for  “Slow soulful anthems”  or  “ catchy pop choruses”

Using the generative AI available on YouTube Music, the app then  creates a station, meticulously matching the description or information shared by the user.

This feature is still in the experimental testing phase and is only available to select Premium users in the United States.

YouTube says it will bring it to more users in the future.
