Yaya Touré appointed head coach of Slovan Bratislava

Former Ivory Coast international and Manchester City legend Yaya Touré has secured his first senior head coaching role after being appointed manager of Slovak football giants Slovan Bratislava.

According to reports, the 43-year-old has agreed to take charge of the reigning Slovak champions as he takes the next major step in his coaching career.

The appointment marks Touré’s first opportunity to lead a senior team after spending the past few years gaining experience in various coaching positions across Europe and Asia.

Touré enjoyed one of the most successful playing careers of his generation. The former midfielder represented top clubs including Belgian side Beveren, Greek club Olympiacos, French outfit Monaco, Spanish giants Barcelona, and English powerhouse Manchester City.

During his time at Barcelona, he won the UEFA Champions League, La Liga, and several domestic trophies.

However, it was at Manchester City where Touré became a club icon. Between 2010 and 2018, he played a key role in transforming City into a dominant force in English football.

He helped the club win three Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and multiple League Cups. His memorable performances and crucial goals earned him a place among the club’s greatest-ever players.

Following his retirement in 2020, Touré turned his attention to coaching. He worked with youth teams at Tottenham Hotspur and later served in coaching roles at Russian club Akhmat Grozny, Belgian side Standard Liège, and Saudi Arabian club Al-Orobah.

These experiences helped him earn the qualifications and practical knowledge needed to pursue a managerial career.

His new club, Slovan Bratislava, is one of the most successful teams in Slovak football history. Based in the capital city of Bratislava, the club has won numerous league titles and regularly competes in European competitions.

Slovan recently enjoyed another successful domestic campaign and will be aiming to maintain its dominance while making a stronger impact on the continental stage.
