Yamaha India launches its first electric scooter in India, the Yamaha EC-06, priced at ₹1.68 lakh with a 169 km range and modern features.

Yamaha Motor India has officially entered the electric two-wheeler market with the launch of the Yamaha EC-06 electric scooter, priced at ₹1.68 lakh (ex-showroom, Maharashtra). Initially, the EC-06 is being offered in select states — Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

The EC-06 is the company’s first electric offering in India and has been developed in collaboration with Bengaluru-based EV startup River Mobility, sharing its fundamental platform with the popular River Indie scooter. However, Yamaha has given the EC-06 distinctive styling and tuning to align with its own brand identity.

Under the bodywork lies a 4 kWh fixed battery pack paired to an electric motor that produces 6.7 kW of peak power. This setup delivers a claimed IDC range of 169 km on a single charge — slightly higher than the Indie — and a top speed of 79 km/h, making it suitable for everyday urban commuting.

Charging performance is tuned for practicality. Yamaha says the EC-06 can reach 0–80 percent charge in around eight hours using a standard slower charger. Unlike some rivals, however, it doesn’t offer support for faster charging options right now. The scooter tips the scales at 132 kg, about 3 kg lighter than the vehicle it is based on.

Design and ergonomics highlight the EC-06’s urban-friendly character. It showcases sharper body panels and a more conventional head- and tail-light treatment compared to the boxier aesthetic of the River Indie. While under-seat storage capacity falls to roughly 24.5 litres, it still provides useful luggage space for daily errands.

Inside, riders get a colour LCD instrument panel, similar to what was seen on earlier River Indie models, and three riding modes that let you tailor performance between efficiency and responsiveness. A reverse-assist feature adds convenience for parking and tight manoeuvres, a welcome addition in city traffic.
