Y Combinator brings new pathway for Indian student talent to enter YC ecosystem; here’s how it works

Y Combinator (YC), one of the world’s most influential startup accelerators, has partnered with Polaris School of Technology and Emergent to introduce a new pathway for early-stage student talent in India to enter the YC ecosystem. The partnership introduces the Vibecon Student Track, a hackathon designed to identify high-agency student builders and give them a direct opportunity to engage with YC through a live, on-ground build and evaluation process. Students from across India apply in teams of 2-3 by sharing short pitches on social platforms that detail the problem they are solving and their build plan on the Emergent platform. Out of thousands of applicants, only the top 5 teams will be shortlisted for the on-ground finals at the Polaris campus in Bengaluru on April 16-17.

These finalists will participate in a live, high-intensity build sprint, culminating in presentations to a panel comprising YC representatives and leading operators from the startup ecosystem.

The judging panel includes Mukund Jha (CEO, Emergent), Mukul Rustagi (Co-founder, Polaris School of Technology and Classplus), Shashank Kumar (Co-founder, Razorpay), and Hemant Mohapatra (Partner, Lightspeed), among others.

The winning team will receive an opportunity to directly interview with YC partners for an upcoming cohort, effectively bypassing the traditional global application process.

In addition, the top three teams will share $10,000 in cash prizes, along with over $10,000 in tools and cloud credits from partners such as AWS, Anthropic, and Razorpay, aimed at helping teams take their ideas forward immediately.

Mukul Rustagi, co-founder, Polaris School of Technology, said, “By bringing YC directly to our campus, we are proving that the distance between a dorm room in India and the world's most prestigious accelerator is no longer thousands of miles, it’s a single afternoon of building."
