Woman Loses Fingers After Diagnosed with Minor Kidney Stone

A woman has opened up about a life-changing medical experience that began with what seemed like a minor kidney issue but later resulted in the loss of her fingers.

The woman, identified as Louise Marshall, revealed that everything started when she began feeling an unusual sensation on her side. At first, she suspected it might be a urinary problem and decided to seek medical attention. After being examined, doctors confirmed that she had a small kidney stone.

She was later advised to return home, as the condition was expected to resolve on its own. However, things took an unexpected turn.

According to Louise, her condition worsened in the days that followed. She noticed changes in her hands and feet, which gradually became discolored. When she returned to the hospital, doctors explained that complications had developed, and she was advised that surgery was necessary to prevent further health risks.

Sadly, the complications resulted in the removal of her fingers.

Narrating, she said: ” I was horrified when I looked down

“I was awake during the amputation, so I saw each finger being taken away from me.

“It was like something from a horror movie.

“I gasped when my bandages were removed.

“The remains of my fingers were swollen, bruised and had stitches in the tips.

“I cried from the pain and shock.”

She revealed that the kidney stone was successfully removed three years ago. However, in July 2022, she began to experience severe pain once again.

She also spoke emotionally about her 25-year-old daughter, Lauren, who stood by her side, cared for her, and remained determined to fight for her recovery.

She added: “There was no way my little girl was going to lose her mum.

“The doctors had to restrict my blood flow to save my major organs.

“My hands and feet had felt icy cold, as if they were stuck to Deep Freeze.

“I hoped I wouldn’t lose all my fingers and toes, as I didn’t know what I would do without them.

“My muscles had started to waste from the lack of use and I had also lost hearing in my right ear.

“But, I was alive, and that was the most important thing.”

After she was discharged from the hospital, she noticed that some parts of her hands and feet had started to recover. Sadly, the fingers and toes on her right side had turned black and were dying. With no other medical option available, doctors had to surgically remove them in October 2022.

Following the surgery, she moved back to her parents’ home, where she became unable to walk, cook, shower, or even use a kettle on her own.

She added: “The doctors told me my case was unique, as usually they use the remaining fingers to model the prosthetic.

“A technician looked at a photo of my hands before and noted that her fingers looked the same as mine.

“And she was right.

“We had identical hands and fingers – I had met my hand twin.

“Along with old photos, doctors were able to figure out the correct dimensions to use.

“When I first saw them, I couldn’t believe it.

“They looked just like the real thing, right down to the blue streaks for veins and intricate creases around the knuckles.

“I was overwhelmed.”

“I can’t forget I was on death’s door for a few days.

“I’m so grateful to be here, and, fingers crossed, things can only get better from here.
