Why Yamal didn’t win Ballon d’Or – La Liga President

La Liga President Javier Tebas has claimed Barcelona starlet Lamine Yamal missed out on the 2025 Ballon d’Or due to his age.

Yamal, 18, finished second in the voting behind Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembélé, who clinched the prestigious award after a 35-goal, treble-winning season with the French champions.

Despite narrowly missing out, Yamal collected the Kopa Trophy for best young player for the second year running.

“If he had been older than 23, he would have won it, too, I’m sure,” Tebas said. “But since he was younger, they gave him the other one [Kopa Trophy].”

Barcelona president Joan Laporta, however, offered a different perspective, admitting Dembélé’s Champions League triumph with PSG was the decisive factor.
