Lawmaker representing Ethiope Federal Constituency in Delta State at the House of Representatives Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, has revealed why she dumped the the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Erhiatake, daughter of former Delta State Governor James Ibori, disclosed that her decision was due to dissatisfaction with the state chapter of the party and unresolved leadership challenges at the national level.

In a formal notice sent on December 5 to the PDP Chairman of Ethiope West Council, she announced her departure, returning her party membership card and cutting all ties with the PDP.

“Please be informed that by this notice I formally resign as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect. I surrender my attached Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] Membership Card, with membership number 0777144 in furtherance of my complete dissociation and disengagement from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)”, the notice read.

Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu secured her 2023 House of Representatives seat under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite her father, James Ibori, clashing with former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa over the party’s gubernatorial candidate.

James Ibori, a key figure in Delta politics and a known ally of President Bola Tinubu, backed David Edevbie for the PDP governorship ticket.

However, Okowa managed to ensure Sheriff Oborevwori’s emergence as the party’s flagbearer through strategic moves during the primaries.

Following Tinubu’s inauguration, Ibori was among the early visitors to the Presidential Villa, reflecting his long-standing ties with the president, as both served as governors during the 1999-2007 period.
