Why I joined Wolverhampton Wanderers – Tolu Arokodare

Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has expressed his delight at being able to join three-time English Premier League Champions Wolverhampton Wanderers, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 24-year-old heads to the Molineux after two years in Belgium with KRC Genk. Arokodare scored 41 goals and provided eight assists in 113 games for Thorsten Fink's side, winning the Belgian Pro League golden boot last season.

The former FC Koln striker has now joined Wolves on a four-year deal with the option to extend for another year.

Victor Pereira's side splashed €26m on the lanky striker to secure his services from Belgium, making him their second most-expensive signing.

Why Arokodare joined Wolves

Set to make the Molineux his home for the next four years, Arokodare mentioned he didn't need a lot of convincing to join the four-time FA Cup winners.

“It feels amazing to be here, It did take a while, but I'm here finally and I'm happy to be here,” Tolu said in his first interview with the club.

“I didn't need convincing, I didn't speak to anyone when I wanted to come here. I know the history of the club, and the players that have been here and how they've progressed to becoming better players and I like the project of the club and that's what I want for myself. To improve myself and help this team.

“I think I'll fit in pretty good because if you look at the strikers that we have now, we're almost like the same profile.

‘So, I think it won't be difficult for me to adapt, and it's a team that likes to play with their strikers, and we can see how good Lars [Jorge Strand Larsen] ended last season, so I'm just here to complement that and then help the team,” Tolu continued.

Quizzed about his accomplishments with Genk in the Belgian Pro League last season, Arokodare was thrilled to have walked home with the Golden Boot.

“The golden boot in Belgium was nice. It wasn't easy because there was competition and to give credit to the other guy [Adriano Bertaccini], I was joint topscorer, but I think I played more games.

“It was an amazing feeling, felt like a well done but it was a bit sad because we didn't win the league,” the Nigerian striker concluded.

Arokodare is buzzing to make his Premier League debut, but that would come after he travels back to Nigeria ahead of the Super Eagles World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa.
