Jimmy Kibaki, the eldest son of Kenya’s 3rd President, the late Mwai Kibaki, has been a figure of interest in both the political and corporate worlds.

While not fully following in the footsteps of his father in politics, Jimmy Kibaki stepped back from active politics, even though he was never an elected leader like his father. Nonetheless, his main focus has been the business world, where he has built a portfolio that is a mix of massive inherited wealth and independent ventures.

In this segment, Times Digital Kenya explores Jimmy Kibaki’s fortune that he inherited from his father’s Shs 150 billion empire, as well as his own ventures.

Inherited Estate: The Kibaki Family Empire

According to his will, Mwai Kibaki’s wealth was shared equally among his four children: Jimmy Kibaki, Judith Wanjiku, David Kagai, and Anthony Githinji.

Jimmy, as the firstborn son, is the primary heir of the Shs 150 billion empire and oversees a majority of the Kibaki family wealth, which includes real estate, agriculture, and hospitality.

Some of the Kibaki family holdings include massive stakes in International Life House, Silver Springs Hotel, Green Hills Hotel, and Kentrout Grill and Campsite.

For International Life House, the Kibaki family holds a significant number of shares, with Jimmy playing a huge role as a key executor.

Green Hills Hotel has been a major investment for the family since 1979, as well as Silver Springs Hotel in Nairobi, which is the crème de la crème of the family in the hospitality sector.

Kentrout Grill and Campsite is also run by Jimmy Kibaki on behalf of the family, specializing in hospitality and trout farming.

In addition to these prestigious properties, Jimmy Kibaki, along with his siblings, inherited vast land totaling over 30,000 acres.

These include the 1,200-acre Gingalili Farm in Nakuru, the 20,000-acre Lombara Ranch in Laikipia, the 600-acre Rware Wheat Farm in Mweiga, Nyeri, and the Naro Moru land, which is approximately 1,600 acres.

Personal Business Interests

As much as Jimmy Kibaki’s wealth is tied to the family estate, he also runs his own ventures, especially in the tech and gaming industries.

OdiBets

Jimmy Kibaki is the chairman of Odibets, one of Kenya’s fastest-growing betting platforms over the past decade. Unlike the family’s more traditional interests in real estate, Jimmy Kibaki has shown flexibility and ventured into the digital world.

Commercial Farming

Apart from his investment in Odibets, Jimmy Kibaki is also involved in farming. A few years ago, he announced his retirement from active politics so as to concentrate more on farming.
